ABOUT valparaíso

Valparaíso is the capital of the Region of Valparaíso being one of the most important tourist destinations of Chile. Less than two hours from Santiago, it’s the seat of the National Congress, the Chilean Navy, the National Council of Culture and Arts among other state institutions.


The city of Valparaiso was the first commercial port of the country and was declared in 2003 as "World Cultural Heritage Site" by Unesco mainly for its invaluable architectural wealth. The city is recognized as an important economic center of the country, with high tourist activity, a unique cultural heritage and for being here some of the most prestigious universities of the country such as the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso, the University of Valparaiso, Federico Santa Technical University María and the University of Playa Ancha, which are a true example of the university life of the city.


It is considered a natural amphitheater because it is located in a bay surrounded by hills where a large part of the population is concentrated. While the city plan carries out activities of a commercial, financial and administrative nature. Among its main tourist attractions are the tours of Cerros Alegre and Concepción where you can appreciate the architecture with English style of the place and some of the most beautiful murals that enliven its streets. Also on Polanco hill you can appreciate the work of different artists and climb the only vertical lift of the city open to the public. Equally outstanding is the Open Sky Museum located on the hill Bellavista with 20 murals of renowned artists worldwide such as Roberto Matta.


Something typical of the city are its elevators that allow to climb the hills of the city at very low cost and of which 16 of them were declared National Historical Monuments. Some of them are the elevator: Barón, Peral, Polanco, Concepción, among others.
